Rizuan Kauhinin, the 25-year-old mountain guide who was hailed as a hero for rescuing a Tanjong Katong Primary School student, has arrived in Singapore.
He will soon be reunited with El Wafeeq El Jauzy, the boy he saved.
Channel News Asia is arranging for the guide and the boy to meet as part of an upcoming documentary, Heart Of Courage: The Sabah Guides.
The channel has been filming Rizuan over the last four days.
This trip to Singapore will be Rizuan's first out of Malaysia. His home is in Kampung Lobong Lobong, a village at the foot of Mount Kinabalu.
Rizuan only agreed to the reunion with the boy he saved on the condition that Channel News Asia also arranged for the other guides to accompany him.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake in the Malaysian state of Sabah on June 5 caused the deaths of 18 climbers, including 10 from Singapore.
The documentary, Heart of Courage: The Sabah Guides, will air on Channel News Asia, June 23 at 8.30pm.
Meanwhile, the family of 12-year-old Rachel Ho, one of the faces of the Sabah quake tragedy, will be channelling all donations from her wake to Malaysian mountain guides who helped the staff and students after the disaster.
Her father, James Ho, told The Straits Times:
"The money would go a long way for the Malaysian guides who now have no income and still have families to feed. It is our way of thanking them for risking their lives to help the students and teachers of Tanjong Katong Primary School after the disaster."
The family is also working with Tanjong Katong Primary School to contact the families of mountain guide Muhammad Daanish Amran and TKPS teacher Mohammed Ghazi Mohamed
Ho also said: "This is really just about humans helping humans in a time of need."
