Update, June 15, 2015: This article has been edited to reflect the correct mynah breeds. Thanks to a reader, David Tan, for pointing them out.
Some of you might have seen this video -- via Joanne Lee -- of a Javan Myna (Acridotheres javanicus), which is the one we see more often in Singapore, speaking in what appears to be concise Singlish:
Well, I'll see your Singlish-speaking bird and raise you a TOTO-buying bird, which is the most Singaporean thing you will see in a while:
The bird perched on the guy's shoulder is a Common Myna, a different species that is less abundant in Singapore. This particular bird is likely to be a young bird since it's actually begging for food from the man, and you often see wild juvenile mynas (especially the Javan Mynas) doing this.
How's that for a combination? A bird so common you won't bother to take a second look standing on a guy doing something so routine and Singaporean.
Bonus: A bird singing a local song
