Day 3: S’pore won 15 golds, just a mere 10 golds from breaking our all-time SEA Games record in 1993

6 golds from swimming, 3 golds from canoeing, 2 golds from table-tennis and wushu, 1 each from cuesports and equestrain.

It was a great day at the Games yesterday, with Team Singapore clinching 15 Golds to maintain its lead at the medal standings.

Here is the honour list of our 15 gold medalists yesterday:

Golds 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32: Swimming

Our swimmers totally dominated Day 3 of their SEA Games campaign, winning six golds out of seven events, and the swimmers breaking 5 SEA Games records in the process.

Below are five quick observations at the OCBC Aquatic Centre last evening. 

1. First, Tao Li denied Vietnamese gold juggernaut Nguyen Thi Anh Vien from clinching her fifth gold by breaking the games record in the women's 50m backstroke final.

2. Second, Tao's handsome prince Joseph Schooling then went on to win the 50m gold, breaking S'pore swim legend Ang Peng Siong 32-year national record in the process.

Schooling also told The New Paper that he dedicated the win to "all those kids who passed away in the earthquake".

3. Third, Quah Ting Wen rubbed salt in Nguyen's wounds by pipping her for gold in the women's 100m freestyle, breaking the SEA Games record too.

4. Fourthly, Quah's younger brother Quah Zheng Wen won gold in the men 200m backstroke in record time, becoming the fourth male Singapore swimmer to win gold in both the 100m and 200m backstroke.

5. Lastly, Schooling won his fourth gold in the men's 200m butterfly, which was the world's 7th fastest time this year.
