What is a student's worst nightmare in Singapore?
How about retaking your examinations? And being informed about this only a week later?
Approximately 2,000 students, mostly from Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), were notified to resit a two-hour statistics examination set by the University of London (UOL).
They can choose to do so either on May 28 or June 3.
Either that, or retake next year in May.
The reason? Missing statistical tables, and that was after the invigilators had said the missing table was not an issue.
Below are five "stunned like vegetable" reactions from our young undergraduates online:
Reaction 1: Bye bye school holidays and vacations.
“Now we have to study for the paper again and I’ve already made holiday plans", Ellen Chan told The Straits Times.
Another student was already in Hong Kong.
So UOL, will the school holidays be extended?
Dear Insurance companies, will travel insurance cover this?
Reaction 2: Chance for Redemption!
Another student, Aizan Guat, told The Straits Times that the retest is “another chance to… complete the paper.”. After all, Guat “wasn’t satisfied after sitting the first exam since he couldn’t complete it without the tables.”
There’s always a silver lining to everything.
Reaction 3: Unleashing the pyromania in some.
And when combined with this:
We get this:
Reaction 4: Heng ah/ Phew.
Reaction 5: Those who wish such “bad luck” befell upon them instead.
Even the Bell Curve God can’t grant your wish.
