Poll time: What is the future of Char Kway Teow in S'pore?

Or is there no future at all?

Mothership| March 02, 01:15 PM

Dr Leslie Tay, a general practitioner, photographer, blogger and one of the leading food authorities in Singapore who is better known by his moniker “ieat” and for his pictures and stories on his award-winning food blog, ieatishootipost.sg, has declared that Char Kway Teow will soon become extinct in Singapore.

Why? Because young people are not that mad about this old-timer food and there is no one to carry on the tradition of frying these plates of goodness.

Taking to Twitter for an eTownhall chat on March 2, 2016, at 9.30pm, Dr Tay will be responding to tweets about what you think the future of food in general will be in Singapore.

But before that happens, here are 10 poll questions to help you think through what it means for Singapore food, or hawker food, in particular, in the future.

Poll question 1: What is the future of Char Kway Teow?

Poll question 2: Will you still find the very places that serve Char Kway Teow next time?

Poll question 3: Will market forces take over for hawker food?

Poll question 4: Young people in Singapore are standard bearers?

Poll question 5: What would you eat everyday if given the chance?

Poll question 6: Is there not enough or too much F&B options in Singapore already?

Poll question 7: Can Singaporeans keep hawker culture alive?

Poll question 8: Seriously, how cray are you for hawker fare?

Poll question 9: So are Singaporeans to blame if hawker food dies out?

Poll question 10: What if someone else carried the flame?
