A large database of snide remarks made during Chinese New Year (CNY) has emerged on Google Docs.
The document, aptly named “CNY Powerplay”, contains hundreds of quotes and phrases made by relatives trying to throw shade on Gen Y prove that their own offspring are superior during the festive season.
The content, currently 11 pages in length, is believed to be crowdsourced from exasperated young Singaporeans visiting their judgey relatives.
There's also an accompanying Reddit thread.
The data harvesting commenced on 8 Feb, and is still going strong.
The aim of the document is as follows:
Hello. I’m compiling a list of power plays and microaggression thinly disguised as harmless CNY banter about ‘your boy/ girl’. Please feel free to add to the list. One day, when civil society looks back upon the atrocities committed in the past, they will find this document useful (And for the admins, who finally have something to toast to).
Here’s are some favourites in bold, but do know that a few samples can't do the extensive list justice – you should check it out yourself.
It’s not known what humanity will do with this wealth of information, but if you wish to contribute to it, you can do so here.
