Across the Causeway in a supermarket somewhere, this guy was totally winning at handwriting

Supermarket discount signs are modern day calligraphy.

Calligraphy is defined as the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush.

We don't write that much these days, but when done right, we are still impressed by decent handwriting.

And here's something: Supermarket discount signs that usually only deserve a perfunctory glance and won't even induce shoppers to do a double-take (unless the discount is substantial), can be painstakingly handwritten one at a time -- such as this case.

If this handwritten supermarket sign done in one take with drop shadow and serif -- and looks like it could have been computer-printed -- isn't considered modern day calligraphy, I'm not sure what is.
