The latest Cabinet reshuffle on Sept. 28, 2015 is short on surprises but long on future-proofing.

However, one thing is clear: Nearly half of all the PAP candidates in parliament are now political office holders.

Here are some of the statistics:

1. There are now 37 office holders, half of are 50 years old and below. Previously, there were 33. (PAP holds 83 out of 89 seats in parliament.)

2. There are 20 Full or Acting ministers.

3. Nearly half of them were elected in the last three GEs in 2006, 2011, 2015.

4. Half of them are below 55.

5. Nearly half of the Ministers of State and Parliamentary secretaries, who support the Ministers, are 45 years old and below.

Check out what PM Lee said during the press conference on the new Cabinet line-up from 19mins 18sec:

href="https://www.facebook.com/leehsienloong/videos/980260388703334/">New Cabinet LineupAnnounced my new Cabinet Line-up today. The changes will provide Singapore with a competent team to lead us beyond SG50. Our challenges are now more complex. More issues involve multiple ministries. I am appointing three coordinating ministers to oversee three major areas: Teo Chee Hean will continue as DPM and be Coordinating Minister for National Security; Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be DPM and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies; Khaw Boon Wan will be Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure. Two ministries – the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Trade and Industry – will have two ministers each to oversee their expanded scope of work. We also urgently need to prepare the next team to take over from me and my senior colleagues. Chee Hean and Tharman will no longer have specific ministerial responsibilities. I will put many younger colleagues into key ministries to broaden their experience. I have also reinforced my team with newly-elected MPs as well as existing backbenchers. These moves will help prepare the next generation of leaders that will work with you. Half of the office holders will now be below 50 years old. I will do a mid-term review and expect to make further changes. We must have a new team ready to take over, soon after the next general election. Please continue to support me and my team. Together, we will take Singapore forward. – LHL

These moves will help prepare the next team of leaders who will work with Singaporeans. We will now have 37 office holders, up from 33, half of whom are 50 years old and below.

I've 20 full or acting ministers, nearly half of them were elected in the last three general elections and half of them are below 55 years old. If we look at Ministers of States and Paliamentary secretaries, who support the ministers, nearly half of them are 45 years old and below.

This is my Cabinet at the beginning of this term of government as we enter our new phase beyond SG50. It's a transition team so it's a bit bigger than usual, more ministries will see a change of ministers and the coordinating ministers will coordinate their work and will guide the new ministers in their responsibilities. And I will do a mid-term review and make further changes.

We don't have time to lose. You've reposed your trust in me. I will structure an effective government and aggressively prepare a new team to take Singapore forward.

And to that end I've given heavy responsibilities to the next generation of ministers. They'll be stretched and tested, they have to prove themselves and gel together as a team.

And by the end, and soon after the end of this term, we must have a new team ready to take over from me.

So please give them your full support. We pledge to do your best to work with you, for you and for Singapore.
