The position of Coordinating Minister is now a thing

The cabinet reshuffle sees the creation of Coordinating Ministers, who will oversee national security, economic and social policies and infrastructure. Other than, erm, coordinate, they will also guide the new Ministers.

DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam will give up his Finance portfolio as he is going to be pretty busy as a Coordinating Minister for economic and social policies, DPM Teo Chee Hean will relinquish his Home Affairs portfolio and oversee national security and Khaw Boon Wan – PAP's chairman – will look after infrastructure, which will means that he is likely to "ownself check ownself" as his new Transport ministry falls under infrastructure.

If you want to listen to all the names being announced and why they were chosen, you can check out this video of PM Lee announcing his entire cabinet lineup:

href="https://www.facebook.com/leehsienloong/videos/980260388703334/">New Cabinet LineupAnnounced my new Cabinet Line-up today. The changes will provide Singapore with a competent team to lead us beyond SG50. Our challenges are now more complex. More issues involve multiple ministries. I am appointing three coordinating ministers to oversee three major areas: Teo Chee Hean will continue as DPM and be Coordinating Minister for National Security; Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be DPM and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies; Khaw Boon Wan will be Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure. Two ministries – the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Trade and Industry – will have two ministers each to oversee their expanded scope of work. We also urgently need to prepare the next team to take over from me and my senior colleagues. Chee Hean and Tharman will no longer have specific ministerial responsibilities. I will put many younger colleagues into key ministries to broaden their experience. I have also reinforced my team with newly-elected MPs as well as existing backbenchers. These moves will help prepare the next generation of leaders that will work with you. Half of the office holders will now be below 50 years old. I will do a mid-term review and expect to make further changes. We must have a new team ready to take over, soon after the next general election. Please continue to support me and my team. Together, we will take Singapore forward. – LHL
