S'porean taxi driver returns Hong Kong actor Chapman To's wallet, declines tip: 'If I wanted money, I wouldn't have returned wallet'

Another Good Samaritan moment to make Singaporeans proud, brought to you by the man on the street.

Hong Kong actor Chapman To, who starred in Infernal Affairs and Initial D, and who was or still is apparently in Singapore, recounted on his Facebook page how a Good Samaritan Singaporean taxi driver returned his wallet to him and declined a tip.

He gave a shout-out to the anonymous taxi driver via this post (translation into English below):

Just witnessed a good deed in Singapore.

I was preparing to go to bed when the hotel lobby manager called and said I accidentally left my purse in the taxi just now and the taxi driver had sent the purse back.

When I got the wallet, I wanted to give the taxi driver a tip to express my gratitude but he told me that "If I had wanted money, I wouldn't have returned the wallet. I would have just taken the money inside." And with that he made his move.

There can be many reasons to like a place, but the "people" in it is certainly the most important.

To the taxi driver, even though you do not wish to tell me your name, I would still want to say "Thank you!"

I would use the tip intended for you to make a donation.
