Speculation was rife that a storm might be brewing internally after Inderjit took to Facebook to announce his retirement suddenly, in reaction to the redrawing of electoral boundaries where his Kebun Baru ward was inexplicably swapped from Ang Mo Kio GRC to Nee Soon GRC.

This caused a reaction from Defence Minister and PAP Organising Secretary Ng Eng Hen, who told the media on July 27, 2015, that the retirement of MPs, especially those who have served 15, 20 or even 30 years, should be done more smoothly and in a more deliberate and dignified manner.
