Taiwan has been hit by over 200 tremors between the late hours of Apr. 22 and early on Apr. 23, with the strongest measuring 6.3 in magnitude.

These are supposedly aftershocks from the deadly Hualien earthquake two weeks ago, which was Taiwan's worst in 25 years, reported Reuters.

The strongest tremors struck at around 2:30am on Apr. 23, with a subsequent 6.0-magnitude quake hitting just minutes later.

No casualties and only minor damage has been reported so far, according to authorities.

Minor damage

The tremors struck near Hualien, the epicentre of the 7.3-magnitude that killed at least 16 people and injured over a thousand.

Two Singaporeans are still missing in the aftermath of the quake.

The South China Morning Post reported that two buildings, the historic Hotel Fouquet and the damaged General's House, collapsed.

However, both were empty.

Members of the public also reported leaning buildings and swaying furniture.

One medical researcher, 44, told Reuters that at 2am, he felt it "[shake] very strongly".

He'd initially considered rushing downstairs but ended going back to sleep, "hoping for the best".

Aftershocks

Over a thousand shocks have been recorded since the deadly earthquake struck, said Wu Chien-fu, director of the Taiwan Seismological Centre.

He added that the aftershocks may continue for at least six months, but likely at a reduced intensity.

Earthquakes reaching 7.0-magnitude are unlikely, he said.

So far, only four of the aftershocks have recorded a magnitude of between 6 and 7, according to government statistics.

Posting on Facebook on Apr. 23, Taiwan's president Tsai Ing-wen cautioned citizens not to go into mountains for the time being.

"When an earthquake occurs, don't panic. Master the principle of 'duck, cover, stay put'," she advised.
