A drag performer, Mistress Kira Moon, was allegedly harassed and assaulted at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) by eight men on the morning of Mar. 10, 2024.

Pushed to the ground, blacked out for a few seconds

According to a series of Instagram stories she uploaded, she was at MBS with her friends at about 5:45am, looking for food after clubbing when a man purportedly shouted a homophobic slur at her multiple times while they were heading up an escalator.

Kira Moon said she decided to go down to confront the man. However, he was joined by seven more men, she told Mothership.

She alleged that the man who shouted the slurs pushed her, while one of the other men pulled off her wig, which was secured on her head with pins and spirit gum.

He then pushed her down to the floor which caused her head to hit a glass panel.

Kira Moon added that she blacked out for a few seconds.

Friend who came to defend her was beaten up and kicked in the face

Meanwhile, her friend who came down to defend her was allegedly surrounded and beaten up by the group.

He was punched and kicked in the face, leaving him with bruises and a shoe print on his face, Kira Moon said.

One of the man's friends also recorded the entire incident, she added.

Another friend of Kira Moon's came down to mediate. MBS's security personnel also arrived on the scene by this point.

The group, including the man, then fled.

Man who shouted the slurs claimed he was intoxicated

Kira Moon added that the police arrived at about 6am after her friend called them.

The man who allegedly shouted the slurs at her then returned to apologise and claimed he was intoxicated.

He also claimed he did not know the other men involved in the attack.

Kira Moon doubted this claim, as she had seen him talking with the group before he shouted slurs at her. She decided to leave it to the police to look into.

However, the man apparently changed his tone abruptly and became "vocally aggressive" towards the police officers, the drag performer said.

A video she shared on Instagram showed him having a tense conversation with the police at one point.

In addition, he also took out his phone to record her and allegedly insisted that it was not illegal to do so.

Kira Moon decided to record him as well.

Footage of the incident was also provided by MBS's security team to the police, she said.

Not an "arrestable" offence

The drag performer said she and her friend were examined by a medic.

Despite bruises on his face, her friend did not see the need to be taken to hospital.

She also claimed that the police told her the man's actions were not an "arrestable" offence and advised her to pursue the matter by lodging a magistrate's complaint.

Voluntarily causing hurt is a non-arrestable offence in Singapore. This means that the person who made the report may be referred to a magistrate by the police officer

Upon receiving an order from a magistrate or public prosecutor, the police may proceed to arrest the person.

On the other hand, if the police has reason to suspect that an arrestable offence has been committed, the officer can arrest the offender and report the case to the public prosecutor.

In response to Mothership's queries, MBS said they were unable to comment on the matter as an investigation is ongoing.

The police were quoted by Today as saying that they had been alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt at 10 Bayfront Avenue, at about 6:10am on Sunday.

Shaken by the event

In another Instagram post, Kira Moon shared how the incident had left her "really shaken" as such bullying had happened to her since she was in primary school.

She said:

"The most traumatic part wasn't the physical pain. It was the mental trauma they put me and my friends through and it was incredibly triggering because that was the word that haunted me my whole life during my primary/secondary school days."
