A fire broke out at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) corridor in Bedok North in the early hours of Feb. 13, 2024.
In a Facebook post, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the fire at Block 22, Bedok North Street 1 at about 3:45am.
The fire is believed to have originated from the battery pack of a power-assisted bicycle (PAB).
The fire was along the common corridor outside an 11th-floor unit, SCDF added.
A video captured by a Mothership reader showed the fire raging with sparks flying out of the corridor.
Two conveyed to hospital
Firefighters from Changi Fire Station used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, SCDF wrote.
The occupants of the affected unit had evacuated the unit before SCDF’s arrival, and three persons were assessed for smoke inhalation.
Two were conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital while the third person declined to be sent to the hospital.
Fire believed to have originated from PAB
SCDF said preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated from the battery pack of a charging PAB.
"To prevent PMD (personal mobility devices)/PAB fires, the SCDF would like to remind the public not to charge the batteries for an extended period of time or leave them charging overnight," SCDF wrote.
They also reminded the public not to purchase or use non-original batteries.
