A 52-year-old Chinese national, Zhang Xiuqiang, allegedly stole S$31,000 from passengers on a Scoot flight from Vietnam to Singapore.
He was charged with three counts of theft on Dec. 18, after supposedly carrying out the act on Saturday, Dec. 16, CNA reported.
Supposedly stole money in USD, SGD and Vietnamese Dong
According to the charge sheets, Zhang had allegedly stolen from three people onboard Scoot flight TR305 between 9:30am and 12:30pm, which was flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore, Shin Min Daily News reported.
One of the purported victims was a man named Lim Janus. Zhang supposedly stole S$600 and 3 million Vietnamese dong (S$164) from his backpack.
Another purported victim was Tan Chin Kwang, who allegedly had S$50 and 510 million Vietnamese dong (S$27,900) taken from his black haversack by Zhang.
Zhang also supposedly stole US$1,000 (S$1,330) and S$930 from an envelope in a grey bag belonging to a man named Park Sanggu.
Zhang was remanded for investigations and is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 22.
Should he be convicted of theft, he faces a jail term of up to three years, a fine or both, per charge.
