Ride-hailing platform Gojek Singapore will implement several changes from November 2023 onwards for drivers and customers.
Customers will be charged a transaction fee for non-cash payment methods from Nov. 1, 2023.
In addition, service fees for drivers (the fee that drivers pay Gojek) will drop from 15 to 10 per cent until at least the end of 2024.
"Payment Transaction Fee" for cashless payment
The fee will range from S$0.10 to S$0.60, depending on the distance travelled and will be reflected in the customer's receipts under "Payment Transaction Fee".
The structure is "not new in the Singapore market", said Gojek.
The fee will only be charged when customers use non-cash payment methods to pay for their ride.
To offset changes, customers can use the code "GOJEK555" from Nov. 1 and enjoy 15 per cent (capped at S$5) off their rides.
Reduce service fees for drivers
Pre-pandemic, Gojek's service fee for its drivers stood at 20 per cent.
In June 2021, the company temporarily cut its service fee from 20 to 10 per cent to support drivers' earnings during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coming out of the pandemic, the increased demand for ride-hailing services saw the company revise its service fee for drivers from 10 per cent to 15 per cent.
This time, the service fee will cut again, from 15 per cent t0 10 per cent.
It will kick in on Nov. 1 2023 and is expected to last until the end of 2024, at least.
Gojek shared that the update was communicated directly to its drivers and published on Gojek's driver blog.
The reduction of the service fee will help increase drivers' take-home earnings while keeping Gojek's services "reliable and accessible" for consumers, said the company.
"It will also support Gojek's ongoing efforts to boost driver supply throughout the day, which will help improve the ride-hailing experience for customers as a whole," Gojek added.
