Tan Kin Lian, along with other presidential hopefuls Ng Kok Song and Tharman Shanmugaratnam, submitted his nomination papers on Nomination Day (Aug. 22) to contest in the 2023 Presidential Election.
Thereafter, all three were also declared to be duly nominated by the Returning Officer.
Tan thanked his supporters and family outside the Nomination Centre. He gave a speech afterwards, flanked by his wife, Tay Siew Hong.
Thank you speech
Tan said:
My name is Tan Kin Lian. I'm standing for election as President of Singapore.
I want to give the people of Singapore a chance to vote for a president who is truly independent of the ruling government.
If I am elected, I will carry out my duties as set out in the Constitution diligently, honestly, and to the best of my ability.
These duties are to safeguard the reserves and uphold the integrity of the public service.
I ask for your support so that I can do my best for the people.
The former NTUC Income chief ended off by asking for support from the public.
He gave his speech in all four national languages, similar to his speech during his bid for the presidency in 2011.
