The Singapore police have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth S$15,416 from a pawnshop, and fleeing the scene.
Police were alerted to the theft, which took place at the ValueMax pawnshop located at Block 77 Indus Road, on June 9, 2023 at around 2:18pm.
What happened
According to the police statement, the suspect, Teh Yun Cai, had visited the pawnshop and requested to see a gold chain and a gold bracelet worth a total of S$15,416.
After the sales executive handed Teh the gold chain and bracelet, he reportedly took off.
Identified using CCTV footage
Officers from Tanglin Police Division established Teh's identity through extensive ground enquiries, as well as police cameras and CCTV footage.
Within eight hours of the report, Teh was tracked down and arrested in the vicinity of Orchard Road.
Upon his arrest, cash amounting to about S$8,655 and a gold bracelet were recovered.
Police also seized Teh's handphone and his clothing used during the alleged theft, for investigation purposes.

On June 10, Teh was charged with the offence of theft in dwelling.
If found guilty, he could be fined or face imprisonment of up to seven years.
Facing nine other criminal charges
Teh is also facing nine other criminal charges including theft, housebreaking and deception.
He was charged with housebreaking and theft of S$799.35, at a Collin's restaurant outlet on Jul. 14, 2022.
Teh was also charged with theft of S$1,558.50 at a karaoke outlet in Orchard Road in Jul. 11, 2022, where he was employed as an assistant manager at the time.
Additionally, he was charged with deceiving at least three separate victims into making bank transfers of amounts between S$150 and S$800 each to his personal bank account, for goods and services at the karaoke outlet that were allegedly not honoured.
According to court documents, Teh has been remanded at the Central Police Division for investigations.
