A 22-year-old man and his 57-year-old mother were arrested after they threw a piece of furniture at a female police officer and used abusive language towards her when the latter arrived at their unit in Sembawang on the afternoon of Jun. 5.
The man was also seen throwing a range of items, including seven flower pots, four knives, and washing machine parts, from his flat, reported Shin Min Daily News.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed they received a call for assistance at Block 415 Sembawang Drive on Monday at 2:19pm.
The mother-son pair were subsequently arrested for voluntarily causing hurt against a public servant and using abusive language towards a public servant.
The 22-year-old man was also arrested for rash act.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Man wounded a medical staff as well
Besides the police officer, the man also threw a sharp object at a medical staff when he arrived at the man's flat with his colleagues to bring the man to a medical facility.
"Everything happened too fast, so I didn't know what exactly he threw at me. I only knew that the bottom of my neck was injured by a sharp object. Thankfully, I only sustained minor injuries, and my colleague was fine," recounted the medical staff, who spoke to Shin Min on the condition of anonymity.
After getting injured, the 29-year-old rushed downstairs and alerted the police while his colleague took the lift.
"I was quite frightened when [the man] assaulted me, but I am used to facing similar situations, so I quickly regained my composure," he added.
However, throwing the object at the medical staff didn't appear to have calmed down the man.
Before the police arrived at the scene, he went on screaming and threw a range of items from his unit downstairs, including seven flower pots, four knives, and washing machine parts, within five minutes.
The series of events was only put to an end after the police arrested the mother-son pair upon entering their unit and pinning them down by force as they refused to cooperate.
Man was autistic: neighbour
A resident who lives on the same floor as the mother-son pair revealed that the man has autism.
"His mother was an affable person. She would greet me even though she didn't really know English. However, for some reason, she looked haggard and tired since last month," said the neighbour.
The 49-year-old added that her domestic helper also noticed that broken furniture began to appear in front of her neighbour's unit last month, which included a washing machine and a shelf.
