Delivering babies publicly seems to be the in thing for pregnant women in China nowadays.

Less than a month ago, a Chinese mother was spotted nonchalantly walking home with her groceries after delivering a baby on the street.

This time, a 2 minute 16 seconds viral video circulating on various Taiwanese and Hong Kong media websites featured a mother pulling down her pants in broad daylight to deliver a baby that fell straight onto the ground.

The undated video did not provide any details on the source of information. It was believed to be taken in China and uploaded recently.

Shocking scenes

In what looked like a street outside a shop in China, a pregnant mother was seen pulling down her pants when her newborn baby suddenly fell to the ground within seconds.

The baby also gave a loud cry as he landed on the ground.

Surrounded by other middle-aged and old women, the mother was then filmed squatting down in a calm demeanour after the delivery, as she looked on at her newborn who was still attached to her through the umbilical cord.

Passersby were shouting, "Hurry, hurry! The baby is going to die! The cord is strangling the child's neck!", but help was only given about 30 seconds later when someone placed a rice sack for the woman to sit on.

The mother continues to squat and stare at her baby.

The mother was also filmed shifting her purse away from her newborn, looking shocked and helpless.

The baby laid helplessly on the street, but was seen struggling, and in a pool of blood and amniotic fluid.

The video ended with a seemingly experienced elderly lady placing a cardboard for the child to lay on, and covering the infant with a piece of clothing.

According to other media reports, some passersby reportedly called the police for help after the episode.

Netizens outraged

News reports from EBC News and Apple Daily noted the shock and anger of netizens when they saw the video.

Here are some of the reported comments:

"This healthy infant may become disabled because of her! This mother really has a problem."

"Even if the infant survives, he may just be half alive. Such a heavy fall, I can feel the pain while watching it. This mother must be mentally unstable."

"Luckily other mothers knew how to manage the situation."

"Seriously speaking, the baby's mother is heartless."

"Allowing the newborn to be exposed to so much bacteria is dangerous."

"I hope the police will arrest this mother."

"The infant is innocent."
