According to a Lianhe Wanbao report published on Lianhe Zaobao (April 13), Mediacorp artiste Rui En has been asked by the police to assist in an alleged drink-driving case.

The incident happened on Tuesday, April 12, at a car park in Clementi. Rui En was reportedly the one driving a black BMW, which hit a parked motorcycle.

The motorcycle's owner Bahrom Sarmiten happened to be walking to his motorcycle when he heard a loud noise and saw that his two-wheeler was hit and the black BMW had mounted a divider.

Tried to move off

Bahrom told the Wanbao reporter that the car had initially tried to drive off but he ran up to it, knocked on its windows.

However, the car only stopped moving after he knocked hard on the window repeatedly. He said the driver tried to cover her face, before putting on sunglasses and getting down the car.

He also said the first thing the female driver said to him was, "Do you know who I am?".

He said he didn't recognise her initially. And he alleged that he smelled alcohol the moment she got out of the car. He only found out she was Rui En when a passerby informed him.

Bahrom's sister was with him when the incident occurred and said that the BMW entered the car park at considerable speed and, in a split second, hit Bahrom's motorcycle. Bahrom's sister called the police when Bahrom went to stop the BMW.

Locked herself in the car

According to Wanbao, Bahrom said that when the police arrived, Rui En got into her car and locked it. She only opened it after repeated requests from the police.

The report said that someone at the scene heard that Rui En told the police that she had only a glass to drink.

Wanted to privately settle the matter for $2,000

Bahrom said that, initially, Rui En had wanted to privately settle the matter for $2,000. He felt that the damage to his motorcycle was extensive and $2,000 would not cover repair costs, so he turned her down.

He said Rui En was insistent and said, "I'm giving you $2,000 and it's not enough? It's cash, you know?"
