M'sian man, 24, rapes domestic helper, 32, at Rochor after seeing her sexually assaulted by another man, gets 8 years' jail

A 24-year-old Malaysian man who saw a 32-year-old domestic helper getting sexually assaulted by another man and raped her instead of helping her, was sentenced on Apr. 13, 2026, to eight years' jail and six strokes of the cane.

Harvin Velanggany faced one count of rape and one count of theft, Shin Min Daily News reported, adding that the prosecution brought the rape charge against him while the other charge was taken into consideration during sentencing.

Field opposite hotel

This comes after the incident occurred on May 27, 2024, at an open field opposite a hotel at Rochor.

The victim, who was working as a domestic helper at the time, drank a few cans of beer there as she was not working that day.

Velanggany, who was walking through the area, reportedly saw another man on top of her, according to Shin Min.

He then approached the woman, who reportedly appeared to be intoxicated, and asked what had happened.

The woman claimed that the other man had forced himself on her and that she did not know him.

Victim got up to leave

After the other man left, the woman also got up to leave, but realised her phone was missing and began searching for it, and said she was worried about getting pregnant.

Velanggany, who followed behind her, said he had brought a condom and told her not to worry.

To this, the woman said that she was worried about the other man getting her pregnant.

Defendant raped victim

Shin Min reported that the defendant then pulled out a condom, grabbed her hands, forced her onto the grass, and raped her.

Following this, the woman sought help from a nearby hotel employee, who assisted her in calling the police.
