S'pore marathoner, 45, passes away from cancer 3 days after marrying long-time girlfriend
Rest in peace.
Entrepreneur and marathon runner Eugene Lim has passed away after a long battle with Stage 4 urothelial cancer.
Lim, who co-founded the charity-driven local running crew The High Panters and was known for his fashion and running achievements, was first diagnosed in 2024.
In an earlier article by Parkway Cancer Centre in June 2025, Lim said he had undergone four cycles of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs)—which combine chemotherapy and targeted therapy to address gene mutations—and five cycles of traditional chemotherapy.
Lim had also filmed a documentary about his cancer journey with CNA, together with his wife, Sofie Chandra.
In an update on Instagram, Chandra said Lim passed away on Apr. 10.
"Eug has passed on, a true legend, the love of my life. His light will keep shining on and on," she wrote.
Finding out he had cancer
Lim first noticed his urine was discoloured during the pandemic in 2020.
While symptoms came and went for two years, medical test results came back clear.
It was only in 2024, when his urine turned bright red, that a CT scan finally revealed Stage 4 urothelial cancer (kidney).
While this was a shock for the then-43-year-old, who had led a healthy lifestyle, he said he was "relatively calm".
“I had time over the last four years to think about this. Obviously, when the urine discolouration first appeared, I read up a bit and knew the spectrum of what it could be," he said in the Parkway Cancer Centre article.
“Also, my CT scan review was pushed up by a day, so I knew it was serious. I was already mentally prepared. I’m someone who rarely fell sick, but I always thought that one day, I would probably face a serious illness. I just didn’t expect it to happen this soon.”
Spending his last moments fully
Chandra shared that the pair got married on Apr. 7, 2026, just three days before his passing.
The couple had been together for about 13 years.
Lim, a Disney lover, and Chandra had just visited Tokyo Disneyland on Mar. 3.
Chandra shared that the visit this time was "a little different" from their usual trips, as Lim was in "a lot of pain", and they took things more slowly.
Tributes
Following the news of Lim's death, tributes from loved ones and members of the running community poured in.
Among them, members of the Adidas Runners movement remembered him for his positivity and the many lives he touched.
Singer Benjamin Kheng also posted photos of himself with Lim as a tribute, recalling how “silly and rich” Lim had made their lives over the past decade.
Many others shared fond memories of their time with Lim, remembering him as someone full of love and energy.
Wake details
Lim's wake will be held from Apr. 12 to 14 at the Woodlands Memorial.
A funeral mass will be held at the Church of St. Francis Xavier at 3:30pm on Apr. 14 before he is cremated at the Mandai Crematorium at 5pm.
Chandra asked attendees to consider donating to the charity 365 Cancer Prevention Society instead of sending flowers, as Lim had wanted to create awareness for early detection of cancer.
As for dress code, she asked people to come in bright and vibrant colours instead of black and white.
