Man, 58, allegedly tried to rob Simei moneychanger with handwritten note, victim refuses, he flees
Arrested.
The police have arrested a 58-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted robbery.
On Apr. 11, 2026 at about 4:20pm, the police were alerted to a case of attempted robbery at a moneychanger along Simei Street 6.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had shown a handwritten note to the victim and allegedly demanded that he hand over cash.
The victim refused, and the man fled shortly after. The victim subsequently called the police. He did not suffer any monetary loss and was not injured.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras, police established the identity of the man and arrested him within eight hours of the report.
The handwritten note was recovered.
The man will be charged in court on Apr. 13 with the offence of attempted robbery.
The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than two years and not more than seven years, and caning of not less than six strokes.
