He is believed to be facing multiple charges, including offences related to robbery and immigration violations.
Malaysian police are currently conducting a nationwide manhunt for a Pakistani detainee who escaped from Sungai Buloh Prison.
According to a statement by Sungai Buloh district police chief, Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor, the 24-year-old man, identified as Mohammad Hassan, escaped from custody on Apr. 9.
He is believed to be facing multiple charges, including offences related to sexual crimes against children, robbery, and immigration violations, Bernama reported.
Authorities said the inmate is considered dangerous and advised the public not to approach him if spotted due to the seriousness of the offences involved.
Based on earlier reports, the escape took place during a custody transfer following court proceedings in Shah Alam.
He had escaped after getting out of a vehicle.
As of Apr. 12, Bernama reported that he is believed to still be in Malaysia.
The inmate was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and black trousers.
Members of the public who have information on his whereabouts have been asked to contact the police immediately.
Multi-agency manhunt underway
Police said the search operation has been intensified with the involvement of multiple units, including the General Operations Force, Air Operations Force, and the Internal Security and Public Order Department, reported New Straits Times.
Border controls have also been tightened to prevent the suspect from leaving the country.
“The public safety situation remains under control, but vigilance is necessary,” Hafiz said in a statement.
He also urged the public not to spread unverified information, warning that speculation could interfere with ongoing investigations and cause unnecessary panic.
