Gan shared this via an Apr. 10, 2026 Instagram post.
Days after urging Singapore residents to deal with the current energy crisis originating in the Middle East by taking public transport and using fans, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong was seen riding the Punggol LRT.
Gan shared this via an Apr. 10, 2026, Instagram post, where he travelled the Punggol East LRT loop with his fellow Punggol GRC Members of Parliament (MPs) Janil Puthucheary, Sun Xueling, and Yeo Wan Ling.

In the video, Gan could be seen engaging in conversations with commuters while standing or sitting next to them on the train.
Connectivity, convenience
Gan added in his post that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has been progressively rolling out new third-generation two-car Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) for the Sengkang-Punggol LRT (SPLRT) since July 2025.
By 2028, all LRVs on the SPLRT will be two-car, to accommodate more commuters, he said.
"Thank you to all residents who have shared with us your feedback on this initiative," said Gan.
"We will continue to work with LTA to improve connectivity and convenience as part of our efforts towards making Punggol a better home for you."
