Cambodian high school girls allegedly stab grandmother to death for not letting them date while in school
The girls face up to 15 years' jail if convicted.
Filled with resentment over not being allowed to date while at school, two Cambodian high school girls allegedly stabbed their 64-year-old grandmother to death and subsequently confessed to their crimes.
Seng Chanboramey, 19, and her sister Seng Heng Sanika, 18, were charged on Apr. 9, 2026, with murder under Article 199 of the Criminal Code, Khmer Times reported, adding that they face up to 15 years' jail if convicted.
Argument
This comes after they reportedly stabbed their grandmother at about 10:20pm on Apr. 5, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Before the woman's death, they lived together in a house behind a grocery store, which their grandmother owned.
The suspects claimed their grandmother frequently prohibited them from having boyfriends, warning that romantic relationships would lead to academic failure, Khmer Times reported.
After another argument with their grandmother on the night of the incident, they were said to have stabbed her repeatedly from behind.
Found with knife wound
According to Khmer Times, the victim, Ty Kong, was discovered with a knife wound at about 11am on Apr. 6, when friends and relatives visited.
The police had immediately dispatched a forensics team after receiving a report from a relative that someone had died.
Following this, the two suspects were arrested and brought back to the police station.
The woman's funeral was held on Apr. 8.
