The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) will be rolling out a S$4.3 million support package during Ramadan, which stretches across Feb. 18 to Mar. 20, 2026.

Support package to benefit over 10,500 recipients

The package, which will benefit over 10,500 recipients, was announced by Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim during the annual MUIS Buka Puasa at Al-Mawaddah Mosque on Feb. 20, 2026.

The session was also attended by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and around 100 Muslims including community leaders, zakat beneficiaries, and guests from Homes.

The Ramadan support package comprises S$3.5 million from zakat funds and S$800,000 from fidyah contributions.

Zakat is a religious obligation for able and privileged Muslims to redistribute and share their wealth with the underprivileged, while fidyah is a religious compensation paid by Muslims who have missed fasts in Ramadan due to valid reasons and are unable to replace them, according to MUIS.

Zakat funds are overseen by Zakat Singapore, a strategic unit under MUIS.

Zakat funds to support underprivileged, low-income families

Recipients of the package include monthly zakat beneficiaries, Muslim residents from selected welfare homes, ComCare Long-Term Assistance recipients, households referred by Family Service Centres, and Muslim tertiary students from low-income families.

"Zakat supports daily living needs, education, healthcare, and pathways to self-reliance. At its heart, it reflects our collective duty as a community to uplift one another and enable everyone to live with dignity, respect, and hope for a better future," said Faishal.

"In addition to Zakat support, we are exploring new ways to make help more easily accessible and to reach more households. This last mile delivery continues to be essential in ensuring care reaches those who need it," he added.

In 2025, MUIS disbursed S$4.3 million in year-end zakat distribution, supporting over 6,000 families, including more than 8,000 children.
