A young woman who fainted and collapsed to the floor of a North East Line (NEL) train carriage was helped off the train by SBS Transit staff and fellow passengers.

In a video posted to Facebook, user Eng Seng Teo shared the Feb. 19 incident, which depicted a red-headed woman dressed in a black shirt and red shorts.

She was splayed on the floor near the priority seat, clutching her stomach as worried passengers rallied around her.

In response to Mothership's queries, SBS Transit's spokesperson, Grace Wu, thanked passengers "who had helped to bring the affected commuter out of the train so that medical attention could be accorded".

Wu added that after receiving medical assistance from the paramedics, the woman declined to be conveyed to hospital and subsequently left the station.

Passengers check on the woman

In the video, a woman in scrubs gets up from her seat to check on the woman as an SBS staff member boards the carriage.

The staff member tells the woman that she "eventually has to come out from the train". The woman appeared conscious but unresponsive.

She eventually sat up with the help of other commuters.

However, as they attempt to lift her, a commotion ensues as the doors close at Little India station.

At the next station, Farrer Park, the woman was assisted and led off the train by the SBS staff member and three other commuters.

It is uncertain what led to the woman's fainting spell and how long she had been on the ground for.

Netizens praise passengers

Commenters commended the commuters for their quick response to render assistance, stating that she was lucky to have been in the presence of an off-duty nurse.

While others speculated that the fainting spell was a result of low blood sugar and wished the woman well.
