M'sian woman arrested after allegedly stabbing elderly mother's neck with can opener

The woman will be remanded for seven days.

A woman in her 50s was arrested after allegedly stabbing her elderly mother's neck with a can opener in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

The incident occurred on Feb. 20, and police were alerted at 7:08pm, reported The Star.

Kuala Pilah District Police Chief Superintendent Muhamad Mustafah Hussin said that a fight was reported at the location.

Mustafah said that investigations revealed that the suspect stabbed her mother "using a sharp object believed to be a can opener".

Suspect believed to have mental issues

The victim, who is in her 80s, was taken to Rembau Hospital for treatment, and her condition is stable.

The suspect, who is the victim's biological daughter, has been arrested and held under police custody for investigations.

Mustafah said:

"The motive for the incident is still under investigation, and it is possible that the suspect has mental health issues."

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 326 of Malaysia's Penal Code for intentionally causing grievous hurt using a weapon or dangerous object.

According to Bernama, the woman has been handed a seven-day remand order beginning Feb. 21.
