This year's Star Awards is slightly different from previous editions — at least for the Most Popular Male & Female Artiste categories.
One of the key changes is that all eligible nominees are in the running for the respective awards.
Who is Yong Ser Pin?
One nominee in particular has stood out among the 75 — at least to the internet.
His name is Yong Ser Pin. On some sites such as Wikipedia, he's credited as Yang Shi Bin, which is a transliteration of his Chinese name 杨世彬.
The majority of the internet has been intrigued enough to try to find more information on him, but there hasn't been much luck.
A thread on Hardwarezone asking for fellow forum users to vote for him garnered these reactions:
The amount of interest in Yong has grown so much that Channel 8's Instagram account posted a video to introduce him.
Golden Horse Awards nominee in Best Supporting Actor category
As it turns out, Yong is 75 and has starred in local productions such as "Your World In Mine", "Healing Heroes" and "Soul Detective".
He was also in Anthony Chen's movie "Wet Season", where he played Yeo Yann Yann's bedridden father-in-law.
Yong was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the 56th Golden Horse Awards, which took place in 2019.
That's him (in white) walking the red carpet at the Golden Horse Awards.
The thespian has also been in more light-hearted productions, like Viddsee's "A.I. Love K-drama".
Here's another fun fact about Yong: if he wins a Top 10 trophy at this year's Star Awards, he will become the oldest actor to have received the award for the first time.
If you're interested in helping him write history, you can vote for him here.
