Popular dim sum brand Swee Choon has big plans to expand.
This was revealed in a Business Times (BT) interview with its third-generation owner, 30-year-old Ernest Ting.
Founded in 1962, Swee Choon has been operating out of its sole outlet at Jalan Besar despite popular demand (although its shophouse premises has swelled to occupy neighbouring units).
An outlet in Nex was originally slated to open in April 2020, but that was postponed due to the pandemic.
What eventually came to pass was a cloud kitchen in Tampines, as well as the release of its frozen dim sum line.
In addition to digitalising the business and pushing out new products, Ting said that they are planning for new outlets in the second half of 2021, so that they can be "closer to the heartlands".
Responding to BT's question, Ting also revealed that the business is "profitable", with a seven-digit revenue annually.
"In the next three to five years, we are also expecting to grow at a rate of 20 to 25 per cent annually, up from 10 to 15 per cent in the past years," he added.
Ting has his sights on international expansion as well.
However, the successor admits that he is "conservative and methodical" when it comes to scaling up, and acknowledges the familial pressure on his shoulders to take the business to new heights.
