Trump: 'Core objectives' for Iran 'nearing completion', will finish the job 'very fast'
Trump then said the U.S. had all the cards, and Iran had none.
U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Apr. 2 (Apr. 1, 9pm U.S. time) as the Iran war entered its second month.
In his speech, Trump laid out his justification for the war in Iran.
The reasons he gave included the nuclear threat, past deaths of Americans and the murder of their own people.
He also criticised former President Obama's "Iran deal", saying it would have led to a massive amount of nuclear weapons if he hadn't acted.
Trump said the objectives he had for the war were clear, which included "annihilating" their navies, air force, and taking away Iran's "ability to make a nuclear bomb".
"Our objectives are very simple and clear. We are systematically dismantling the regime's ability to threaten America or project power outside of their borders," he said.
He said these objectives are "nearing completion".
He also said the U.S. will finish the job "very fast".
Trump then went on to talk about his domestic impact, including the increased oil output.
This means the U.S., he said, will not have to use the Strait of Hormuz.
Which is why Trump said the other countries that use the Strait will have to defend the Strait themselves.
He reiterated his call for them to either buy oil from the U.S. or take it from the Strait.
He then said the Strait will open back "naturally".
Trump also said he would bring Iran "back to the stone ages, where they belong" over the next few weeks.
He then threatened to hit their energy-generating plants "very hard" if no deal is made.
He said he had not hit "their oil" yet because it would severely diminish their chance of survival.
In his 19-minute address, he also described the U.S. military force as "unstoppable".
Trump then said the U.S. had all the cards, and Iran had none.
He then described how long the U.S. had been involved in other wars.
Trump then compared those long numbers to the 32 days so far for the Iran war.
"This is a true investment in your children and grandchildren's future", he said.
Back and forth
Trump had earlier claimed that the Iran's "new regime President" had asked for a ceasefire.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said Trump's statement about a ceasefire request was false and baseless.
Iran's President later released an open letter to the U.S. people.
