250kg WW2 bomb found at Changi Airport T5 construction site, to be disposed of on-site on Apr. 2
It was found along Tanah Merah Coast Road on Mar. 31 at around 4:55am.
A 250kg aerial bomb from the World War II period was discovered near Changi Airport on Mar. 31.
In a press release, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that they were alerted to the war relic at around 4:55am while construction works were carried out along Tanah Merah Coast Road.
According to the Changi Airport website, the location is part of the Changi East development, which includes the construction of Terminal 5 (T5).
On-site disposal, loud sounds may occur
Following the discovery, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team confirmed that it is unsafe to move the war relic.
The team will carry out an on-site controlled disposal of the bomb on Apr. 2 between 2:30am and 4:30am.
The disposal will be contained within the construction site premises, and areas accessible to the public will not be affected.
However, members of the public in the vicinity may hear loud sounds during the disposal process and are advised not to be alarmed.
SPF added that they are working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Changi Airport Group, the SAF, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force to ensure the operation is conducted safely.
