Two directors of car rental company Autobahn Rent A Car were charged on Jan. 30 for allegedly forging a fake receipt detailing the "sale" of 10 Hyundai vehicles.

According to The Straits Times, Tan Boon Kee and Sanjay Kumar Rai, both 49, had asked their employee to produce an "official receipt" using Komoco Motors' letterhead, detailing the "sale" to Hamilton Autohub.

Komoco Motors is the official distributor of Hyundai Motor in Singapore, while Tan and Sanjay are both directors and shareholders of Hamilton Autohub, a Singapore-based car dealer.

Document claimed sale concluded with full payment

The falsified receipt, dated Nov. 6, 2025, indicated that Komoco Motors had sold 10 Hyundai Kona Hybrid vehicles to Hamilton Autohub.

It was also decorated with Komoco Motors' letterhead, and confirmed full payment was made to the Hyundai distributor.

Tan and Sanjay had allegedly intended to pass the receipt off as genuine, reported ST.

"We have done no wrong"

Both directors were charged with one count each of abetting by engaging in a conspiracy to commit forgery for the purpose of cheating.

A police prosecutor had requested for the duo to be remanded at Changi Prison for one week to allow authorities to investigate further, to which the men disagreed.

Sanjay told the court: "We have done no wrong."

Their lawyer argued that the remand was unnecessary, seeing that they had already provided evidence to the authorities.

The police prosecutor argued that custody was required to ensure the investigation was not compromised, and that "there may be other possible accomplices".

District Judge Brenda Tan granted the prosecution's application.

Their case will be mentioned again on Feb. 6.

Owes financial institutions and CPF contributions

On Jan. 6, Autobahn Rent A Car suspended operations due to "operational constraints and insurance cancellation".

The company also owed creditors, including DBS, UOB, OCBC, Maybank and other finance companies, more than S$300 million as at Dec. 23, 2025.

Court filings dated the same day also showed the company was in arrears on about S$85,000 in Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions for November 2025.
