A Singaporean man, 29, got trapped on a mountain in Taiwan after losing his equipment during a hike.

But as he was able to call for help via a satellite phone, he was rescued 36 hours later.

Solo hike

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on Jan. 6 at Pintian Mountain, situated between Hsinchu and Taichung City.

The man, surnamed Lin, was on a solo hiking trip when his gear fell into a valley, leaving him with no way to leave the mountain.

He was able to retain a satellite phone, however, and used it to contact the Taichung City Fire Department.

The call was transferred instead to the jurisdiction's Hsinchu branch, who said they received the call for help at about 8pm.

More than a dozen rescuers were reportedly involved, and Lin was found weak but conscious at noon the next day.

Due to the treacherous conditions, he was not immediately transported out of the mountain area, but taken to a nearby mountain hut for the night to rest.

Lin was only rescued via a helicopter the following morning on Jan. 8, after 36 hours.

He suffered slight abrasions on his limbs, according to Shin Min.
