Italian man, 31, on trial for human trafficking remanded after allegedly assaulting ex-girlfriend who bailed him out
Achraf Arjaouy was previously charged for allegedly trafficking a Singaporean woman for sex work.
A 31-year-old Italian man in Singapore who was out on bail for alleged human trafficking reportedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend on Oct. 15.
According to The Straits Times (ST), Achraf Arjaouy, had allegedly repeatedly assaulted the woman, who is also his bailor.
His bail was revoked on Nov. 14 and he is currently remanded.
Hit bailor when she refused to give him money
According to Deputy Public Prosecutors David Khoo, Tay Jia En and Ariel Tan, Arjaouy had assaulted the woman four times.
In September 2024, she suffered bruising to her face and neck, and also reported on another occasion that she had been slapped, punched and choked.
Arjaouy had allegedly hit her when she refused to give him money, reported ST.
She had previously bailed him out when he was granted S$100,000 bail on the condition that he did not re-offend.
Prosecutors added that he depended on her financially while in Singapore on a special pass, and knew where she lived.
They emphasised the need to protect the woman and urged the court to revoke his bail, saying he "will very likely continue to pose a danger" to her.
