Canal along northern Rail Corridor filled with trash, NEA says possibly due to heavy rainfall or high tide
Nasty.
A canal along the Rail Corridor near Sungei Kadut Avenue was recently found to be heavily littered with trash.
Photos shared by a Mothership reader show the water's surface almost completely covered with rubbish, including cardboard pieces, plastic bottles, and other discarded items.

Could be attributed to heavy rainfall or high tide
In response to Mothership's queries, the National Environment Agency (NEA) stated that they are aware of the situation.
The agency noted that the canal drains out to sea, and "during periods of heavy rainfall or high tide, a higher amount of flotsam may be observed".
NEA added that vertical gratings and floating booms are used to aid cleaning efforts, with accumulated flotsam removed on alternate days.
The canal also undergoes monthly desilting and flushing.
"NEA will continue to monitor the situation closely and step up the cleaning frequency when necessary," the agency said.
