A 15-year-old Malaysian teen suffered a serious head injury after hitting his head on a metal bar that is part of an obstacle course in Penang.

The Star reported that the incident occurred around 6pm on Nov. 13 at a playground in Gurney Bay.

Obstacle course

The boy, who is from Sarawak, was in Penang on holiday with his schoolmates.

They went to the playground and the boy was running up the spiral staircase of a three-storey tall obstacle course when his head hit a metal bar.

The obstacle course, which was undergoing maintenance, was still open to the public.

However, Sin Chew Daily reported that it was designed for children aged six to 12.

He was left with a deep wound, and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

Photos of the scene showed blood flowing from his head while he lay on the ground.

The playground has since been closed off.
