Nearly a month after a 16-year-old girl was murdered at school in Malaysia, her mother remains in grief.

Yap Shing Xuen was allegedly stabbed with a knife by a 14-year-old boy in a school toilet on Oct. 14.

On Nov. 7, Yap's mother, Wong Lee Ping, wrote on Facebook that it had been 25 days since her daughter had left the family.

Having been previously busy with the funeral arrangements, Wong only began processing the loss in the past few days, when things gradually calmed down.

"It feels like a dream," she wrote. "Only after waking up did I realise painfully that I have truly lost her forever."

Plans with the family

Looking back, Wong recalled how the family would spend time doing activities together every weekend.

Now, her daughter's presence and laughter will no longer be there, Wong said.

There were many things that Yap had been looking forward to before her tragic death.

The family planned to take her on a cruise after her exams and to go on a trip to Guangzhou on her birthday.

"We had already agreed to celebrate her birthday on the plane ride there," Wong added.

The family was also moving into a new house, and Yap had been very excited about it.

She had personally designed her own bedroom and chosen the wall colour.

Wong included photos of what appear to be Yap's designs for her room, and the bed sheets she had bought in preparation for the move.

"Now, all the plans have become regrets — none of them can be fulfilled for her," Wong said. "It's a heartache that will never go away."

At Yap's funeral on Oct. 20, which was attended by 500 people, Wong delivered a eulogy for her daughter in tears.

On Oct. 22, the alleged stabber was charged under Section 302 of Malaysia's Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
