Container barge grounded near Sentosa's Tanjong Beach, beach remains open

No reports of damages, injuries, or pollution, according to MPA.

Update on Jun. 6 at 1:20pm: This article has been updated with a second statement from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

A large cargo vessel was grounded off Sentosa's Tanjong Beach in the early morning of Jun. 6, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said.

The barge, known as Marco Polo 802, was carrying containers.

At 7:27am on Jun. 6, eco-tour agency Kayakasia shared a video of the grounded barge on Facebook.

At the time of their statement, MPA said that the barge remains stable, and they have sent tug boats to tow it out to sea.

There are no reports of damages, injuries, or pollution, nor is there an impact to navigational safety, according to MPA.

The beach remains open to the public.

MPA is investigating the incident.

They are also working with Sentosa Development Corporation and the relevant agencies to ensure minimal disruption.

Update

The barge has been safely towed away to an anchorage for follow-up inspection and investigation, MPA said in an updated statement.

MPA added that a portion of the floating security barriers off Sentosa was damaged in the incident.

The Police Coast Guard (PCG) will be assessing the damage and doing the necessary repairs.

PCG has concurrently stepped up patrols in the vicinity.
