Two Chinese nationals charged with theft on board a plane were brought back to the scene of the crime in Changi Airport on Jun. 5, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The duo are accused of stealing S$169 and two debit cards from a victim during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

They were taken to several spots at the Terminal 1 arrival area, including gate D48 where they had exited, as well as shops near the immigration hall, CNA reported.

Arrived in wheelchair

One of the accused, Liu Xitang, 35, arrived at the scene at about 10:35am in a wheelchair.

He had a cast on his right leg and was dressed in a white polo shirt and dark blue shorts, with a towel draped over his thighs.

He had told the court a day earlier that he was suffering from a leg fracture.

Three male police investigators accompanied Liu.

They spoke to him in Mandarin.

Liu was then taken to a rubbish bin, where the police had previously found two debit cards belonging to the victim.

Second accused taken through same route

The second accused in the case, Wang Wei, 40, was escorted to the gate by five police officers at around 11:10am.

He was also dressed in a white polo shirt and dark blue shorts.

His arms and legs had restraints and he was wearing black slippers.

He was taken through the same route as Liu and questioned in Mandarin.

They left in about 15 minutes.

He appeared expressionless.

Inflight theft incident

Liu and Wang were arrested on Jun. 2.

Police were alerted to the inflight theft at about 8:50pm on Monday.

An off-duty Singapore police officer on the same plane had noticed one of the alleged suspects looking through a bag in the overhead compartment before taking items out.

The eyewitness later found out that the bag belonged to a female passenger.

If convicted, the men may be jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.
