Czech woman, 88, mistakenly declared dead, wakes up in coffin
She was reportedly in good health.
An 88-year-old Czech woman was wrongly pronounced dead before she suddenly opened her eyes and woke up in the coffin.
A resident of Pilsen, Czech Republic, called emergency services on May 30 after believing his wife had passed away since he could not wake her, The Brussels Times reported, citing Czech newspaper Pravo.
A forensic doctor arrived and declared the woman dead.
A death certificate was also produced.
Opened eyes
However, when the funeral home staff was working on the woman's body and attempted to place her in a coffin, the woman opened her eyes.
The funeral directors quickly called emergency services, and the 88-year-old was brought to the hospital for observation.
She is reportedly in good health despite her age and past illnesses.
The police are currently investigating the incident and are looking into the doctor, who is suspected of failing to offer aid to a person in danger.
The company that dispatched the forensic doctor has expressed regret for the incident and said there will be consequences.
