WhatsappA Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight en route to Da Nang, Vietnam, was forced to return to Singapore's Changi Airport shortly after takeoff on Jun. 5, 2025 due to a technical issue.

Flight SQ172, which according to Flight Radar is a Boeing 737 Max 8, was originally scheduled for a 9.15am departure from Changi Airport, arriving at 11.05am local time at Da Nang International Airport, according to SIA's website.

A passenger on board the flight told Mothership that the flight's departure was delayed for 45 minutes as the plane "[required] an engineer to come and greenlight some technical issue".

They also shared that one hour after departure, it landed again back in Singapore, allegedly because "the plane's autopilot wasn't working".

According to an SIA spokesperson, the flight, which had 152 passengers on board, landed back in Singapore at 11.02am local time.

Passengers were provided with food vouchers while they waited for a replacement aircraft, which departed Changi Airport at 1.29pm and arrived in Da Nang at 3.06pm local time.

"SIA sincerely apologises to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused. The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority", the spokesperson said.
