Four new People's Action Party (PAP) faces will be contesting in Nee Soon GRC this upcoming election, said Minister for Law and Home Affairs K. Shanmugam.

They are Goh Hanyan, Syed Harun Alhabsyi, Jackson Lam, and Lee Hui Ying, according to an interview Lianhe Zaobao had with the minister on Apr. 18.

Shanmugam is the anchor minister for Nee Soon GRC.

He said that Lee and Lam were chosen as they both served as grassroots volunteers in Nee Soon for many years and are very familiar with the area.

On the other hand, Goh and Syed were assigned to the district by the PAP Central Executive Committee, where Shanmugam felt they both had their own strengths and accepted the decision after discussion.

Shanmugam clarified that all new PAP candidates must first be selected by the PAP Central Executive Committee.

Shanmugam said that after the CEC selects the new candidates, he can make suggestions on whom he wishes to transfer to his constituency.

He said that for his constituency, he selects suitable candidates based on the situation on the ground.

Former Nominated MP Syed Harun, 40, who is a consultant psychiatrist and medical director, was speculated as a potential candidate after he resigned from Parliament in February 2025 and was later spotted on a visit to the former Northview Secondary School with Nee Soon GRC MPs.

Lam, 40, the head of a pest control and cleaning company; Lee, 36, a Nee Soon grassroots volunteer and civil servant; and Goh, 39, a former director at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, were all mentioned by PM Wong at the unveiling of the PAP's manifesto on Apr. 17.

The four new faces were also seen accompanying Shanmugam on a Nee Soon GRC residents’ visit to Rainforest Wild Asia on April 19, according to The Straits Times.

The previous MPs for Nee Soon GRC were Shanmugam, Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Louis Ng, Carrie Tan, and Derrick Goh.

When asked if Ng, Tan, and Goh would be running for the election this year, Shanmugam told reporters that the candidates will be announced in good time.
