On Apr. 20 afternoon, flash floods occurred in several parts of Bukit Timah due to heavy and intense rain.

When a resident, who wishes to be known as R, and his friends noticed that trash bins were floating in the flash flood waters towards the main road, they braved the rain and ankle-deep water to bring them back to the estate.

R subsequently shared the footage with Mothership.

What videos showed

In one of the videos, R's two friends, both wearing black, were seen dragging a blue bin while walking in ankle-deep waters.

When R saw another blue bin lying on its side in the water nearby, he picked it up and dragged it along with him.

In another video, one of his friends in black was seen placing the blue bin in front of a house.

At the same time, another young man, dressed in white, was seen dragging a green bin along the road.

His hair, shirt, pants, and socks were drenched in water.

The young man in white pulled a blue bin towards a landed property before placing it next to a green bin.

In response, a woman, dressed in black, walked out to greet and thanked him.

Swim for free

Even as the group went on retrieving the waste bins, they proceeded to have some fun since they were already drenched.

When they came across a street where the water was apparently deep enough, one of them took a dip and swam freestyle.

Flooding subsided around an hour later: PUB

In an Apr. 20 Facebook post, PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency said several flash floods occurred in some parts of Bukit Timah after intense rain "temporarily overwhelmed the capacity of the surrounding drains and canals".

The flooding subsided after about an hour at all the affected locations.

According to PUB, Bukit Timah is "prone to flooding", and there are ongoing works to expand a section of the Bukit Timah Canal — from Rifle Range Road to Jalan Kampong Chantek — to enhance flood protection.

PUB added that works are expected to be completed by 2026.
