
Puan Noor Aishah Mohammed Salim, the wife of Singapore's first president Yusof Ishak has passed away.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), she passed away peacefully on Apr. 22 at 4:28am at Singapore General Hospital.
She was 91.
Puan Noor Aishah will be laid to rest at Kranji State Cemetery later today (Apr. 22) alongside her late husband.
The PMO statement said: "As a mark of respect, she will be accorded the honour of being borne on the Ceremonial Gun Carriage for her final journey from Masjid Ba'alwie to Kranji State Cemetery."
In recognition for her contributions, the Government will assist her family with the funeral rights.
A statement by PMO recognised Puan Noor Aishah as a "steadfast pillar of support" to the late president throughout his tenure from 1959 to 1970.
She was also deeply involved in charitable causes and championed various social initiatives, particularly in support of women, children and the less privileged.
She was also awarded the Special Medal of Honour by the National Trades Union Congress in 1971.
