Gho Sze Kee, the People's Action Party's (PAP) candidate in Mountbatten SMC, has rebutted People's Alliance for Reform (PAR) Lim Tean's claim that she was "parachuted" into the constituency for the election.

Gho told The Straits Times (ST) that she has been walking the ground for the last 10 months. She had been asked on the sidelines of house visits in Jalan Tiga on Apr. 21 to respond to Lim Tean's comment.

Have been on the ground for the past 10 months

"Facebook pictures don't lie. I've been featured on Mr Lim Biow Chuan's Facebook page for the past 10 months," Gho said, as quoted by ST.

Lim Biow Chuan is the incumbent MP of Mountbatten SMC.

At a candidate introduction session on Apr. 20, Marine Parade anchor minister Tan See Leng said that Lim will retire from Mountbatten SMC after "serving tirelessly for many terms".

Instead, Gho, who has been a community leader and a PAP branch activist for 13 years, will stand as the PAP's candidate in the constituency in the coming election.

The 46-year-old maritime lawyer was also the party's Bukit Timah Branch secretary since December 2020.

"In fact, I started in July 2024, so maybe (Lim Tean) didn't notice that I was on the ground since then," Gho told ST.

"[I'm] definitely not parachuted in... plus the fact that I've been at Bukit Timah for 13 years. So, I don't think the word 'parachuted' really applies to me."

"Parachuted"

Lim Tean's comment was made on a Apr. 20 walkabout at Jalan Batu Market and Food Centre, which is in Mountbatten SMC.

The secretary-general of PAR had this to say about Gho:

"She has been parachuted into Mountbatten very late in the day, and I don’t think she really knows the ground,” he said, as quoted by ST.

PAR intends to field a candidate in Mountbatten SMC.

The constituency is expected to see a multi-cornered fight between PAP, PAR, and "bitcoin candidate" Jeremy Tan.
