Ex-NMP Syed Harun Alhabsyi spotted with Nee Soon GRC MPs & several new PAP faces
New faces galore.
Former Nominated MP (NMP) Syed Harun Alhabsyi was spotted at an event with Nee Soon GRC MPs on Mar. 27, 2025.
He was accompanying MPs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Carrie Tan, Derrick Goh, and Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam on a visit to the former Northview Secondary School.
MP Louis Ng was not present at the event, Straits Times reported.
Syed resigned from Parliament on Feb. 14, 2025, sparking speculation that he might be fielded as a candidate in the upcoming 2025 General Election.
In his resignation letter, posted to Facebook on Feb. 14, Syed shared he was exploring opportunities to serve "in a different capacity".
NMPs are not affiliated with any political party and do not represent any constituency, and no NMP has ever resigned before the end of his or her term.
Fellow NMP who resigned said he would join PAP
Syed's resignation came on the same day as another NMP, Raj Joshua Thomas.
Thomas, in an interview with Mothership, shared that he would be joining the PAP.
He could be fielded as a candidate in the upcoming election.
Who is Syed Harun?
Syed, before serving as an NMP, was a consultant psychiatrist and medical director at The Starfish Clinic of Psychiatry and Mental Wellness.
According to the clinic's website, he was formerly a visiting consultant at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and a consultant psychiatrist at the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Several new PAP faces
Several other new faces were spotted at the event on Mar. 27 by ST.
These include intellectual property lawyer Deryne Sim, 40.
Sim, a media and entertainment lawyer with more than 10 years' experience, had previously been seen giving out oranges to Nee Soon residents alongside Minister K Shanmugam on Jan. 26.
Sim is a former committee member of the LGBTQ+ activist group Pink Dot. She also gives pro-bono legal advice at Meet-the-People sessions.
Jackson Lam, 40, who had stepped down from his post as People's Action Party (PAP) branch chairman in Hougang SMC, was also seen at the event.
Lee Hui Ying, 36, who has been volunteering in Nee Soon GRC for over 15 years, was also spotted.
