3 most hardworking SMC MPs are Liang Eng Hwa, Sitoh Yih Pin & Xie Yao Quan, based on number of estimated voters
Do you know which SMCs they represent?
The Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) released its report on Mar. 11, 2025, recommending several electoral boundary changes in the lead up to the General Election (GE), which must be held by November.
The committee's other recommendations included increasing the total number of Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) to 18 and that of Single-Member Constituencies (SMCs) to 15.
As its name suggests, an SMC is a constituency represented by one Member of Parliament (MP).
For GE2025, six new SMCs have been created, namely Bukit Gombak, Jalan Kayu, Jurong Central, Queenstown, Sembawang West, and Tampines Changkat.
At the same time, five SMCs have been removed from the electoral map, namely Bukit Batok, Hong Kah North, MacPherson, Punggol West, and Yuhua.
Who are the 'most hardworking' SMC MPs?
According to the EBRC report, as of Feb. 1, 2025, the total number of electors is estimated to be 2,753,226.
Based on the 93 MPs elected in GE2020, this translates to an average ratio of one MP to about 29,605 electors.
Now, you might be thinking that serving an entire constituency all by oneself is no easy task, especially when each SMC has over 20,000 electors.
So which MP could possibly be the most hardworking of them all? And which might have an easier time of them all?
This article will help you answer these rather innocuous questions if you are too lazy to compare amongst the SMCs yourself.
There are only three SMCs where the number of electors is higher than 29,605, the national average number of electors per MP.
This means that based on the number of electors per SMC, the three "most hardworking" MPs are Liang Eng Hwa, Sitoh Yih Pin, and Xie Yao Quan.
